A training on MARPLE Diagnostics is underway at the National Plant Protection Centre (NPPC). The training is facilitated by Dr. Diane Saunders, Dr. Roland Wouters, and Dr. Dave Hudson, who has extensive experience in plant pathology and genomics. The training is attended by technical staff from NPPC and Regional Plant Protection Officers from the Agriculture Research and Development Centres (ARDCs) of Bajo, Wengkhar, and Samtenling. The training program includes both theoretical and practical knowledge on the use of MARPLE Diagnostics, with a particular focus on identifying rust pathogens in wheat. The sessions cover fundamental concepts of pathogen genomics, the importance of early disease detection, and the workflow of MARPLE, including sample preparation, handling pipettes, setting up PCR reactions, sequencing and interpreting results. The knowledge and skills imparted from this training will significantly contribute to enhancing the country’s preparedness in plant disease diagnostics.
