The National Plant Protection Centre (NPPC) family welcomed Ms. Chokey Lhamo, Laboratory Officer, and Mr. Bikash Tamang, Senior Plant Protection Supervisor, to the centre. Ms. Chokey Lhamo is newly recruited to the civil service. Prior to joining the centre, Mr. Bikash Tamang served as a Gewog Agriculture Supervisor in Genekha Gewog under Thimphu Dzongkhag. The NPPC team is delighted to have both of them join the centre and looks forward to their valuable contributions. The NPPC family would like to convey our heartfelt tashi delek and welcome to the NPPC family.
As part of the welcome ceremony, a Tashi Khadar was offered by the Program Director as a gesture of warm reception. This was followed by a series of presentations delivered by each Program at the Centre. The presentations highlighted the Program vision, mandates, Human resource strength, ongoing activities, and future plans.
In addition, two teams who recently attended International training programs shared their learning outcomes and experiences with the staff.
The Odisha Training Team presented key knowledge gained from their training in Odisha, India. Their presentations covered the following topics:
- Operation and Utilization of qPCR (quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction)
- Operation and Utilization of ELISA (Enzyme-Linked immunosorbent Assay)
- Foundational Microbiology and Molecular Biology Techniques
- Operation and Utilization of LAMP (Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification)
Another team that attended training at the National Research Institute for Integrated Pest Management (NRIIPM), New Delhi shared their learning outcomes on:
- Mass production techniques of insect predators
- Entomopathogenic nematodes as a new tool for Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
- Production of Nuclear Polyhedrosis Virus (NPV)
- Mass production of Corcyra cephalonica, an important host insect used for rearing biological control agents.
The session facilitated knowledge sharing and capacity building, helping staff gain insights into new technologies
