Maize weevil (Sitophilus zeamais) | Distinct snout, Slightly larger than rice weevil, Reddish brown with four red to yellow spots on elytra & can fly. Thorax densely pitted with irregular punctures. | Rice,   Maize, Wheat, Barley, Sorghum. | Store only clean, dry grain with MC of <12%., Proper sanitation of storage room or bin, Fumigation & heating grains to 600 C. | sitophilus_zeamais 

Lesser grain borer | Adults are dark reddish brown and 3 mm long with distinctly shaped, loose 3-segmented club. Larvae are white and c-shaped. They are immobile at maturity with dark head capsule. | Wheat, barley, sorghum and rice. | Store only clean, dry grain with MC of <12%. Proper sanitation of storage room or bin. Fumigation & heating grains to 6′ C. |

Bean beetle (Callosobruchus masculates | Adult weevil of 1/8th inch, reddish brown.Wing covers (elytra) marked with black & grey color with two black spots in middle. | Beans, cowpea, peas, Mung bean, soybean. | Store only clean, dry grain with MC of <12%. Fumigations with Aluminum phosphate. |

Angoumois Grain Moth (Sitotroga cerealella | Adult small buff to yellowish-brown moth with 10-12mm wing span. Narrow pointed wings fringed with long hair. | Wheat, barley, corn, rice, sorghum, millet. | Proper sanitation and crib preparation prior new grain storage. |

Rust- Red flour  Beetle (Tribolium castaneum) | Small beetle (1/4 inch long) but may live more than 3 years. Are reddish brown in color & its antennae end in 3 segmented club. | Broken grains and grain products (flour, cereals, beans, spices, pasta, nuts, seeds) | Store only clean, dry grain with MC of <12%. Fumigations with Aluminum phosphate. | [/table]

Mrs. Yeshey Dema

Mrs. Yeshey Dema joined the civil service on 26th February 1996. She headed the Soil Fertility Unit, NSSC from 2008 till 2013. In 2013, she was transferred to the National Plant Protection Centre as the Program Director. She holds M. Phil in Soil Science from the University of Reading, UK.
