The Universal Hybrid Fence, implemented under the Community-based Human-Wildlife Conflict Management Project with funding support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), was inaugurated on 6–7 September 2026.
The inaugurated sites include:
- Dawakha, Toedwang Gewog, Punakha
Fence length: 4.8 km
Area protected: 185 acres
Benefiting 51 landowners
2. Ngalakha, Rubesa Gewog, Wangdue Phodrang
Fence length: 2.3 km
Area protected: 48 acres
Benefiting 17 landowners
The Universal Hybrid Fence is an important community-based intervention aimed at reducing human–wildlife conflict, protecting agricultural land and enhancing food security, while promoting harmonious coexistence between communities and wildlife.
The inauguration marks an important milestone in strengthening community resilience and protecting livelihoods through practical and sustainable human–wildlife conflict management solutions.
