A farmers training on fall armyworm identification and management was conducted at Udzorong Gewog on 12 March 2026 in collaboration with ARDC Wengkhar. The training was organized under the AFACI PMP+ Project and attended by 70 farmers from the gewog.

The training focused on improving farmers’ knowledge and skills in managing fall armyworm infestations in maize fields. The session covered the following key topics:

1. Identification of fall armyworm at different life stages (egg, larva, pupa, and adult).

2. Recognition of typical damage symptoms in maize fields.

3. Field monitoring and scouting techniques for early detection.

4. Practical management strategies, with emphasis on the safe and effective use of pesticides.

As part of the program, a practical field demonstration was conducted to enhance farmers’ understanding of proper pest control practices. The demonstration included the use of two new-generation pesticides: Emamectin benzoate and Chlorantraniliprole. Farmers were guided on the correct application methods, recommended dosage, and safety precautions required to effectively manage fall armyworm in maize.

The farmers actively participated in the training, showing strong interest in learning.

The training program will continue in Kanglung Gewog on 13 March 2026, followed by additional sessions in Chhaling Gewog and Chagsakhar Gewog in Monggar Dzongkhag.
